OSB Athlete Profiles

Mike Napoli

Name: Michael Napoli
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois
College: UCF
Current Residence: Orlando, Florida
Occupation: Software Application Developer

Athletic Background:

Always a “wanna-be” athlete in baseball and softball but as I got older I realized that fat drunk guys played softball and it wasn’t a real sport. I became involved in endurance sports after seeing the energy and excitement of the crowd while tracking my wife as she ran the Chicago Marathon. One afternoon I saw my neighbor friend come home with numbers painted on his body after racing in a Clermont Sprint Triathlon. It looked fun and insane so I decided to join him in the madness.

Personal:

Married to Mary-Jo, 2 daughters Dani (19) and Jordan (16) who both can swim circles around me.

Goals:

IM USA Lake Placid in July 2007 and then IM Arizona in 2008! Lots of things in between..

Hobbies outside of Tris:

Former rock star (in my mind) but now serves the Lord as a Guitar player in the worship ministry. I love getting involved with HS athletics with my daughters at Timber Creek. Teach advanced math at Avalon Elementary 3rd Grade class.

PRs:

Pre-Marty never ran a marathon under 4:32. With Marty’s help I had a 3:51 Chicago Marathon in 2006. (Over 40 minutes Faster! Thanks Marty!) 5:32 Half IM at Gulf Coast

Why I Do This:

I am addicted to and I love the triathlon lifestyle and more important I love the friends I have made along the journey.

Favorite Quote:

Fletch.. “Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.” My wife is sick of hearing that after 20 years but I still use it on her.

Favorite Team:

UCF Knights and the Tampa Bay Bucs! After 2006 my family thinks I need to find new teams!

Why I chose OSB?

I was racing in marathons and sprint triathlons for a few years but I really had no clue what I was doing. I first met Marty at a YMCA swimming group when I decided to stop faking it and get serious about training. Besides having a very impressive resume, Marty was really cool and helpful and I found somebody I could trust. His ability to work around my crazy schedule and his training methods enabled me to do things athletically I never thought I could do! I am excited about the future and working with Marty to crack more PR barriers in 2007!
